During your surgery, you won’t feel any pain, as you will be under general anesthesia. As you recover, you’ll likely feel some soreness, tightness, and swelling around your chest. This is tolerable given the prescribed pain medication, but you should take plenty of rest to ensure you minimize pain.

How Many Appointments Will I Need?

Patients typically only need one appointment for their surgery. However, additional appointments at our San Antonio office are required so Dr. Rokosz can check your progress, remove your sutures, and ensure you aren’t experiencing excessive discomfort.

How Long Until I See Results?

Immediately after your surgery, you will notice a decrease in the size and shape of your breasts. There will also be some swelling and bruising that will obscure the results, but these gradually fade. It will take several weeks to months for your breasts to finally take their natural shape, depending on your age and overall ability to heal.

How Soon Can I Travel After Breast Implant Removal?

In general, it’s best to wait about 1 or 2 weeks before going on short drives. Traveling by plane is acceptable after about 2-3 weeks, but make sure to walk around the cabin when allowed to promote blood circulation and help prevent swelling and blood clots.

Breast implant removal is a surgical procedure that safely removes silicone or saline breast implants from an initial breast augmentation. People get the procedure for two main reasons: medical necessity and personal preference.

Your breast implant removal surgery will be at our surgical facility in San Antonio. Make sure you arrange for someone to pick you up, as it will not be safe for you to drive yourself.

You and Dr. Rokosz will review your surgical plan to ensure you are both on the same page. You can ask any questions you need to feel more comfortable and ease any anxieties before you’re given general anesthesia and enter a deep state of controlled unconsciousness.

Dr. Rokosoz will make incisions along the existing scar lines wherever possible, so you don’t have additional scarring. Then, she’ll use the technique discussed in your treatment plan- between the simple removal, total capsulectomy, or en bloc technique- to meticulously remove the implants and the surrounding capsule, if necessary. If you choose to combine additional procedures, these will be performed as well.

The surgery typically takes around 2 to 4 hours.

Your Guide to Post-Breast Implant Removal Care

The recovery from breast implant removal is a critical part of the journey and should be taken very seriously. You will experience some swelling, bruising, and overall discomfort and tightness for the first few days to a week post-surgery. Take the prescribed medication to help tolerate the discomfort.

For exercise and other activities, you can resume light ones within the first 1-2 weeks, provided you are not overexerting yourself. Wear the support garments to ensure your incisions don’t reopen and swelling doesn’t increase. You can gradually work your way up to strenuous exercise over 6-8 weeks, getting updates after each follow-up appointment with Dr. Rokosz in our San Antonio office.
