This procedure often addresses medical complications, such as capsular contracture or implant rupture, or satisfies the patient’s new or evolved aesthetic preferences or goals. Some of these new preferences may include a different implant size, shape, or type of implant.

This procedure takes into account the results of the initial breast augmentation, including the scarring and implant placement. For this reason, the new incisions are often placed in the same areas as the initial procedure to reduce scarring.

What to Expect on the Day of Breast Augmentation Revision Surgery

This is the exciting part! You will return to our surgical facility in San Antonio and have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify anything that is still unclear. You’ll review the surgical plan again to make sure you and Dr. Rokosz are on the same page, including the characteristics of the implants and how they will be inserted.

You will always be given general anesthesia before any incisions are made. In most cases, the incisions will be made along the same lines as your initial breast augmentation. Your current implants will be carefully removed and replaced with new ones. Sutures will be delicately placed to close the incisions.

The entire surgery typically lasts between 1 and 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Your Guide to Post-Breast Augmentation Revision Care

As you recover from your breast augmentation revision surgery, you will need to follow similar steps that you took after your breast augmentation.

The main thing to prioritize during your recovery is rest. As you rest, make sure to lie on your back so you don’t shift the position of your implants. It will also help avoid pain from putting pressure on them.

Your breasts will be swollen, sore, and bruised. Take prescribed medication to tolerate these side effects better, and drink plenty of water. You can go on light walks within the first couple of days and slowly work your way up to strenuous activities over 6-8 weeks.
