How Many Appointments Will I Need?

Then you will have a series of follow-up appointments during which Dr. Stallworth will remove your splint and check your progress. After this, Dr. Stallworth typically sees patients 3-4 more times over the next 12-18 months to ensure proper healing and satisfaction with the nose’s form and function.

How Long Until I See Results?

You won’t be able to see results for a few weeks, as the swelling and bruising will be very present. As the swelling and bruising subside, you will slowly notice improvements over several weeks, with final results occurring at around the 12-18 month mark.

How Soon Can I Travel After Revision Rhinoplasty?

You can go on short rides within the first week, but you should wait 7 to 14 days before traveling by air. The tissue healing will be delicate, so cabin pressure can exacerbate swelling and increase the risk of nosebleeds.

Before surgery, you will need to attend a consultation with Dr. Stallworth at our San Antonio office. This is a required first step and sets you up for a smooth surgery and recovery. The consultation will involve the following:

What to Expect on the Day of Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery

Your revision rhinoplasty will be performed at the same San Antonio surgery center where you had your consultation. Arrive early to check in and sign consent forms.

You’ll meet with Dr. Stallworth again and review the procedure. You will have time to ask any questions that come up before the procedure begins. Then, you’ll be given general anesthesia, ensuring you are in a deep state of controlled unconsciousness and won’t feel pain.

Dr. Stallworth will perform the procedure, using many of the same techniques as rhinoplasty, except he will carefully account for the altered tissue. He will create an incision in the nose, either through the bridge or the nostril, and reshape the soft tissue and bone to the shape and size discussed during the consultation. At the end of the surgery, bandages and a splint will be applied to your nose to let it heal properly.

You can expect the surgery to last anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the extent of the procedure and the amount of correction needed.

Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Revision Rhinoplasty Care

The recovery process for revision rhinoplasty is very similar to the rhinoplasty recovery experience, but it will likely take longer and be less predictable because the tissue is healing a second time.

There will be increased, prolonged swelling, and it may take longer to subside. There will still be bruising and sensitivity, especially during the first week. Wear your splint and bandages at all times, except when bathing. Dr. Stallworth will let you know when it is acceptable to stop wearing it.

When you rest and sleep, make sure to lie on your back so you don’t shift your nose. It will also help minimize swelling. Take prescribed pain medication to alleviate any discomfort you feel.

You can go on short walks within a few days, but avoid strenuous activities for at least a few weeks.
